Lunaria, which is also called Honesty, is a beautiful plant from Europe and South-East Asia. After flowering it develops the most amazing translucent discs that hold its seeds, which can be dried and kept forever.
The discs must be prepared by hand-peeling the outer layer off each side of the disc individually – a delicate and time-consuming process that reveals the pearly inner layer that lunaria is so well-known for. This process showcases the see-through silicles (similar to seed pods) and gives lunaria the “moon-like” appearance that it is named for.
The small lunaria stems are approximately 20cm tall.
